1. News item - A US District Court Judge ruled the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional, declaring that the discriminatory federal statute violated the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of equality.
Personally, I believe the only way to get rid of DOMA once and for all is thru Congress. However, one advocate with a legal background was kind enough to respond to my question and informed me that's not so. The Supreme Court taking the case and making a final decision on the issue is.
2. News item - On Wednesday, February 22, Truth Wins Out announced that it has filed a defamation lawsuit against Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays (PFOX) and its President Greg Quinlan after he claimed on a television show that Truth Wins Out Executive Director Wayne Besen tried to have him killed. The lawsuit was filed in Virginia's Northumberland County Circuit Court where PFOX is headquartered. Norfolk attorney Michael Hamar will represent TWO.
It took them long enough. Wasn't there a ten day ultimatum or something? Whatever. Personally, I don't care for both organizations. Both groups have demonstrated they're no better than the other when it comes to my full equality, but I rather not dwell on the past. I'd just like to go on record and wish Mr. Hamar all the best.
3. The Washington Blade reports DC Police and the US Attorney's have been conducting an internet sting online, posing as minors online on gay websites and enticing or persauding gay males into having sex with them.
Assuming the assimilationist movement haven't completely whitewashed our history, and that there's no one lying or playing plausibility deniability - because there are - then everyone knows that police entrapment was a way of life back then. But then the internet came into fruition and those sex offenders breathed a sigh of relief. Now everyone had someone new to take offense too. Since many of them believe in the exception for the rule as far as police entrapment is concerned, I'm not sure why the Washington Blade would have published this story.
